If you want to go back to stock undo any mods (for example the SD Card mod) and let the VTAB update to the latest version of the software from Vizio. You will be back to stock, but no root method has been found for the latest version.

Worked flwelassly and only took ten mins, much easier than my hackintosh project. One small question, how would I reverse, and unroot if I got excited and didn’t think to do a clockwork backup of the stock ROM?

I just installed the latest version of Zeam from the thread at XDA to test your statements. You must turn on the setting in Zeam to manage wallpapers internally and restart Zeam each time you change the wallpaper for wallpapers to work.

Zeam, like many home replacements, has it’s own setting for auto-rotate support. In Zeam it is under the general settings and is called “Sensor rotation”. Make sure it is checked.

I successfully set up a six by six grid with no problem.

You can add shortcuts to the dock in Launcherpro, LP is my personal choice. But Zeam is very good and it’s free.

Zeam: almost works. Landscape doesn’t function and neither do wallpapers (at all). You also cannot adjust the column/rows with any success. If it were fully functional it’d be what I’d recommend. The ability to add shortcuts to the dock I really like.

The update was labeled 1.5 when it was sent out, but did not update V.I.A. Plus to 1.5. It was obviously just to block root on the VTAB.

Yes, I’m glad someone has rooted the Vizio VTAB. I bought it from Woot! seeing it had infra-red and a media remote app (which sucks) but also to get apps to backup and install on an Entourage Edge (without Market).

The post on XDA the root not working on “Vizio update 1.5″. I took that to mean V.I.A. Plus (software) version. Mine’s 1.4, with a “Build number” of 1.9.57. Nothing is at 1.5. The batch process ran and never did anything, never re-booted the VTAB and apparently didn’t work.

Running it again stops at “WAITING FOR DEVICE”.

There is no real documentation on what any failure condition means, so it either works or it doesn’t.

I suppose I could figure out how to reset to the original firmware…

A long shot, but I just ordered one 4GB and one 8GB Transcend Class 10! You don’t happen to remember exactly what version of StreakMod Recovery you were on when you succeeded? If not I’ll just try the two or three latest, no biggie =)

Thanks for the tip. I went to turn on my Vizio tablet and it was taking a long time to load and the it just went blank. It would not turn back on even thought the battery was full. I then plugged it in and still nothing. I found this site and tried the both volume buttons and power and walah! it came on. Thanks for the info….worked great
I hope this isn’t something that happens often with the Vizio tablet. I am thinking it was just a fluke.

I think it was a great write up. Just went through the cutting part of the process today to discover that I wont be able to use my 16GB Class 10 card, very dissapointing. I hope there will be some future release that will fix this stupid limitation. Good Work !

Very useful information. I purchased one for Christmas, and I wished that I had read this before I purchased it. Vizio has no clue what SDCARD means at all. When I called their tech support about it, they said that it was not an issue, and that if you moved any application to the external memory (sdcard) that it would not run. I ended up returning the VTAB1008 to the store.

You can use QuickPic (a gallery app from the market) to set a wallpaper. If you use QuickPic go into the launcher settings and restart the launcher (works for Launcher Pro).

If you go to Settings->Personalize and change the lock screen wallpaper I think it will also be set as the desktop wallpaper.

I have been testing a few launchers on my VTAB. Go launcher EX and launcher pro. Both work, but I’m liking launcher pro a little better. Still can’t choose my own picture as background, think I need theme plugin or something.
